But when their 12-year-old son, Robbie, shows disturbing behavior, they take him to the Family Therapy Unit where they meet Karen Dexter (Lindsay Frost, The Ring), a psychologist whose intrusive therapeutic approach includes delving into the Berricks’ marriage. As a result, Karen uncovers secrets that Hannah and Doug have kept from each other. The Berricks find the painful therapy to be productive. However it soon takes on a darker cast when Karen persuades Hannah to tell Doug about an affair she had eight years ago.
